Why is this tolerated?

I just can’t imagine having salsa and maple syrup in the same dish. Bleaugh.

Though I did once had an amuse bouche made with egg yolk, maple syrup, and sweetened whipped cream with chives, served in a shot glass. That was weird but good.

So your bouche was amused?

All of a sudden, this thread has acquired a funky bass soundtrack.

What’s fish got to do with it?

I’m confused. Is this a music thread or a food thread?

It could not stop laughing.

I don’t get it. Isn’t this what the phrase means in the first place, as in here’s something to amuse your mouth?

Or was it just because bouche is a funny-sounding word? Because I can get behind that.

Mmmmmmm! Fresh homemade tortillas with real butter!
(A little pepperjack cheese will make that “stick to your ribs” good!;))

In the context of amuse bouche, the French word ‘amuser’ does not mean ‘to incite laughter’ (though in other contexts it can, but that’s not the word’s most common meaning). It’s closer to divert or interest. On s’amuse means ‘kept oneself busy’. Amusing, eh?

Ok, I’ve looked at this, and thought carefully about the only comment in this thread that actually is usefully on topic. (the rest of your recipe discussions, however, seem interesting, and I will be thinking carefully about those, too, as breakfast suggestions)

On to my response to the only actually responsive and substantive post:

Actually, I just checked my infractions. Only one is for ‘personal insults’. The rest are for ‘being a jerk’. That said, on to the rest of Irishman’s comment.

I’m playing true to form. FXMastermind may be annoying, but I see no rule violation on re-examining what I was bitching about. I was responding to the annoyance I felt in my characteristically jerkish manner. A warning would not be inappropriate, and I will not contest it if given one.

Please return to your regularly scheduled breakfast recipe discussion, or the thread-closing. Whichever comes first.

I’m starting to hear banjo music in the distance as I’m fishing…

Neither. It’s a thread started by a jerk, which should be laid to rest by warning the jerk that started it… [sub]Oh… That would be me.[/sub] Ignore the banjo music. That’s only in my head. The warning, if issued, should stand. I’m wr… Wro… Wron… [sub][whisper] wrong [/whisper][/sub].
