This thread would probably be better off in IMHO or The Pit. LongLineRider, you’ve been called out. What is your point? Make a statement and let the debate begin. I want to see where this debate would lead.
Posting all those links and saying, “yeah, but did you read my link” isn’t going to end well.
I wouldn’t work in a plant environment for minimum wage, indeed I finished my education and quit a union job paying union wages with benefits. We have plenty of minimum wage jobs in this country, that’s why the Mcdonalds in my town has open interviews every Tuesday, because it is exceedingly difficult to retain quality help at those wages. I don’t understand how poorly paying jobs will help unless it is simply a method to get people off the dole. Of course the protectionist laws that would have to be implementated would cost America more jobs (fewer exports when other nations retaliate) than we would gain.
Now you make a good point regarding the environmental costs to China of such a rapid expansion and of course we do not want such conditions in America as they have in China. Unfortunately we still have to compete with them. So we best figure out how to do that. I posted the ‘Japanese Method’ of dealing with Chinas cheap labor problem…yet I saw no response on here to that.
The lack of American competiveness is a recognized phenomenon and I have posted some of those opinions. If anyone is not convinced of that then that is their right. Since I have posted credible expert opinion on that matter I will not waste any more board space trying to buttress that fact.
I do not think there are any recognized expert ‘economists’ on this board if so they should post their ‘credentials’. So what we essentially have here is a bunch of people with personal opinions. As has been said everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally I like to back up my opinions with expert advice.
As on a lot of boards there seems to be a ‘cabal’ on here that wants to ‘control’ this discussion if not the board as a whole. As a newcomer which they keep pointing out I am not ‘privy’ to the pecking order on here and frankly I do not give a damn about that or how long anyone has been posting on here. I am simply not interested in crap like that.
If anyone has a intelligent argument or a rational reason to doubt any source I post then let them come forth with it. To merely complain that my sources are not good enough and then not even then explain the problem they have with the source is a waste of board space
According to recognized experts China’s economy will over take America’s in 2030.

It seems a shining example of American Exceptionalism that we expect to be the largest economy for all time, even when there are other countries with 5 or 6 times as many people in them.
Yes I completely agree. However we have a administration that simply does not know what needs to be done. Then you have huge numbers of people and some of them very influential who claim everything is just hunky dory the way it is.
Well, the problem with predicting dire economic consequences for 2030 (and China’s GDP exceeding that of the U.S. isn’t exactly something I’d panic about) is that nobody has any real clue what the economy will be like in 2030. They can only extrapolate what is known now and technology is such a game-changer that any prediction made now will likely be obsolete (even quaint) in five years, let alone 17.

Gods, you are hilarious. So, by your own statement here, doesn’t that mean that the US is in fact competitive? Because, you know, if China isn’t going to overtake us (maybe) until 2030 then that means…
…that this is complete horseshit, right? I mean, which is it? America is uncompetitive, yet China won’t overtake us for another 17 years? Or is it your claim that the US AND China are uncompetitive?
Let me point something else out to you at this point though…it’s not a zero sum game. Even if we assume that China will overtake the US in 17 years, that doesn’t mean that the US will fall to the current level of China. China could overtake the US and the US could still be competitive at the same time…they don’t cancel each other out.
And yet you chose blogs and videos that don’t say what you think they say, and aren’t by recognized experts in their field. Interesting, no?
Please don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. Personally, I don’t see what’s so hard for you to grasp…don’t post drive by links. Engage posters in the discussion instead of mumbling about cabals and conspiracy theories, posting links without quotes or videos without comments and attempting to shift the goal posts. Obviously, however, this is beyond your ability to grasp.
Well, the complaint isn’t only that your cites suck, though I can see that grasping two things at once is not your forte.
It appears to me that most on here are not interested in pursuing the truth in regards to our economical mess. They want to shout down my sources and yet have nothing really to counter what has been presented other than to engage in personal attacks and complaining about my being a newbie etc.
As I have pointed out already none of us on here as far as I know has a Phd in economics or any other academic credentials to make anyone on here a recognized expert on our economy and its problems.
Yet we are all entitled(af far as i know–perhaps i am wrong)to have our personal opinions regarding what we think is wrong, what we think needs to be done etc.etc.
If you have ideas or sources that should be considered by the board regarding what needs to be done to improve America’s economy present them and cease engaging in frivolous personal attacks which serves no real purpose
Or another idea is to start your own thread talking about how great everything is in America or How America leads the World.
If we’re going to have a mess, at least it’s economical. [NB: “Economic” and “economical” do not mean the same thing.] Send me a private message or email about this username issue now. If you don’t, you may be banned.
I made my position very clear from the gitgo–i.e. America is not at the present time ‘competetive’. I supported that belief with expert opinions from very credible sources.
Now for some reason that belief seems to upset many on here. I could and have to a certain extent ‘speculated’ on why that is the case but it is a waste of time and only leads to more irrelevant responses
.
Now I will be ‘charitable’ as you say and tell you why your post sucks.
If you have a problem with a link–the intelligent way to handle that is to specifically address why and then such a reply could be discussed. In a intelligent manner.
Merely to say as you do in the above post that you made a mistake of following one of my links is simply not dealing with the issue because first of all I have no idea what link you are talking about and of course neither does anyone else.
In a nutshell the ‘good ole boy’ network on here seems to be jealous that my thread has generated a fair amount of responses and they want to shut it down.
There are plenty of other boards so it will not bother me if they are successful in doing so. I post on several boards and I will not miss this one if the ‘lynching party’ gets me booted out of here. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I’m sad, as I’m sure LLR was writing a long rebuttal to my cite, showing exactly what he wanted from us. In that way, perhaps we all could have learned something?
