If Tucker Carlson could just say something and be believed by a majority of the people, then Donald Trump would have won the 2020 election.
The reality is that most people understand that Carlson is lying. Even his own viewers understand Carlson is lying but they’re generally okay with that because they think he’s lying on their behalf.
Under the adopted rules, any individual member of the House — Republican or Democrat — can offer a motion to vacate the chair. Such motion would be privileged and would require a majority vote to pass.
So why don’t Democrats continually offer motions to vacate? Because (1) they’ll lose, and (2) they don’t want motions to vacate to become so routine that they become background noise that voters tune out. If they’re going to pull this trigger, they want it to be over something truly outrageous that would put House Republicans in a bind over supporting their Speaker. The Tucker tapes ain’t it.
It appears senate Republicans have their ear to the ground, and don’t like what they’re hearing. In the house they obviously have nothing but cowards. Someone on that side of the aisle needs to learn how to count votes, usually the job of the speaker, but Republicans usually choose speakers who are a higher quality of incompetent boob than McCarthy. The Democratic party in it’s entirety needs to stop focusing on the Jordan committee and other useless activity and focus on offering solutions to the problems directly affecting voters and pointing out how the Republicans aren’t even attempting to do that in addition to standing in the way of any such efforts.
Just wait for the shit show when they try to take away Medicaid, food stamps and Section 8 housing in districts repped by Republicans. Any R from a poor district that votes for that is going to find himself unemployed.
Biden won by a whisker after four years of daily outrageous acts that kept putting the country in danger and literally killed hundreds of thousands. Trump almost won by making loud claims ten times a day. What hurts or helps the Republican Party boils down to a series of small individual decisions in certain areas. One of those decisions is getting to the voting booth. Anger helps that. Demonizing an enemy helps that. Living in a bubble that surrounds you with commands to vote a certain way helps that. DeSantis won Florida by 19 percentage points using anger and demonization as tools. 1/6 worked as a tool for Democrats by its palpable truth in imagery. Does destroying faith in that truth hurt more than reminding people who never or barely believed in that truth in the first place? I’d say yes.
But the Republicans aren’t taking away Social Security and Medicare. Tammy Baldwin is.
