Bah. He’s a more talented poet than me, sure. That’s because I’m not a poet, I’m a law student. I don’t have to give somebody respect just because I can’t do what they can. I couldn’t make the film “Showgirls”, that doesn’t mean I have to respect the filmmaker who did for releasing his junk to the world. Professionals are judged against peers, and compared to people who write good poetry I can mock E. E. Cummings. The fact that he chose such a pretentious way to style his name is just icing on the cake.
Jeez, if you can’t make fun of semi-famous and almost semi-talented literary figures on the internet without getting a “harumph” in retort, then what’s the point of all this anymore?
I was taught Latin American studies by my advisor, a non-Marxist leftist, socialist liberation-theology Catholic of Irish descent from Brooklyn.
Does that count?
My professor and his wife even wrote a book about the US involement in Central America-Murdered in Central America by Donna Whitson Brett and Dr. Edward T. Brett (the latter being my advisor).
It’s a pretty good book, you might want to check it out.
Not to ruin your party or anything, but E. E. Cummings actually did capitalize his name when he wrote it. There are a few of his editors that chose to leave the name in lower case of the covers of his books, but on any other text refering to him, and in his own signature, standard capitalization was used.
