Must run. I probably won’t post again to this thread. It’s not my cup of tea. I wandered in and **Lightray** ’s comment drew my attention, but as a general rule I don’t like Pit threads. (and I have no stake in the basic premise of the OP) I always enjoy taking the lunch money of those SDMB vanguards who profess their contempt for the positions of others, yet refuse every single offer to make their own case. My offer still stands: Things are a little busy, but for the half dozen folks who have responded in the last half hour, I will gladly give you the opportunity to fight some ignorance and show me, and the world wide web, what the bible actually says on this subject. Let me know. ---

It makes me wonder if you believe that anything can be learned through reading since you appear to be rejecting the entire notion of _us_ learning through _someone else_’s trial and error. For you to know that a bullet to the head will kill you, do you have to shoot yourself in the head? If not, what’s the difference between a bullet to the head and a pointless religion thread? Because from here, they look pretty damned similar. ---

I’d adore it if people who had no knowledge of Roman history would stop comparing eveything to the ‘fall of Rome’. It’s getting old. Call something else a Fall, ok? Start comparing to the fall of Western Civilization to the Great Fall of Leaves or That Time When The Jar Fell Out Of The Cupboard. ---

Oh, and. In reading over the previous thread, I thought maybe **raindog** would like to know that someone who does have a PhD-level knowledge of ancient Greek (ie, me) does not think _arsenokoitai_ can be unproblematically translated as ‘homosexuals’. Feel better now? ---

Second would be that there are many things which are not as clear as we would like them to be in the translations that we have. ---

Seriously, if Western civ is collapsing due to hedonism & immorality, and if heterosexuals are 96% of the population, it’s kinda hard to blame it on the gays. We’re good, but we’re not that good. ---
