There is no such thing as a “national election” in the US. All elections are state elections, even the presidential. That’s why they’re such a clusterfuck…

The campaign may be national, but the election isn’t. I’ll vote for 18 electors from my state this year because a state law says I can, and they’ll meet in the statehouse and get paid (or not, I don’t know) by the state.
