Why not impeach Dubyah?

It seems to me that #4 is the only one even remotely impeachment worthy, and you’ll have a hard time proving it to be as sinister as you make it out to be.

We can do that!? That changes everything!

As other posters have said, there isn’t anything bad enough to justify impeachment. “Alienating the UN” that passes resolutions but rarely acts effectively isn’t a crime under US law. We haven’t given up our sovereignty yet.

I’m not referring to you or anyone here, but it’s much easier to make dark accusations than to actually look for facts, especially when the accusers are afraid the facts might not support the accusations sufficiently.

Hey, I’m for Bush, but I say do it now! Go for it! I’m 100% serious! :: pulls up lawn chair ::

It would be a good thing in my opinion, but not quite the way you think. It would make the participants look disloyal and it would reflect badly on the entire party. As much as I’d like to see that happen, I know it won’t. Most Democrats know damn well how bad it would look - it would probably cost them seats in Congress and the next Presidential election. They’re not that stupid.

It’s either the US corp or the French, I personally would rather it be US, as this job it too big for all but 2 corps IIRC. I would want to impeach a pres who gives this to the french.

But you’re only talking about rebuilding the oil infrastructure there…I thought there were FAR more US companies than just Haliburton being handed out contracts like they were candy in Iraq. goes to dig up some linkage

Bush should not be impeached for the same reason that when the opposing team throws an interception, you don’t want to get called for roughing the passer. You want to keep possession of the ball and jam it down their fucking throat.

As we learned during the Clinton impeachment, any attempt to remove the President from office for any reason is a scheme to undo democracy. So, presuming either that you don’t hold any lingering doubts about Florida or that Bush is re-elected in a more clear fashion in 2004, he could shoot someone on live television and get to serve out his term.

None of the things you object to are either “high crimes or misdemeanors”, which are the only basis on which a President can be impeached. “I don’t like his foreign policy” is not an impeachable offense.

Although I would to go on record as agreeing with rowrrbazzle in very strong terms. By all means, Democrats, go right ahead with your little liberal circle jerk as described, and see how conspiring to overthrow the President plays out with the voters. Especially when people ask if you are spending public money or public resources on this kind of politicking.

You think you got flack for the Lincoln bedroom stuffy? You ain’t seen nothing.

Shodan

How about deliberate lying to provoke a war that has cost the lives of hundreds of American soldiers? That seems to be a much more serious crime than lying about a blowjob.

Sadly, this conduct is well within the normal range of behavioiur for American presidents.

Morally speaking, you have a point. But for better or worse, American law distinguishes between lies made under oath and lies not made under oath.

As I’ve said:

George Washington: 1.
George Bush: 2.
George W. Bush: 3.

Which makes him George III, which means it may be time for another revolution.

Though sleazy, there’s nothing on the list that I would consider criminal. Our only recourse is to vote him out of office.

I’ve heard from quite a few people outside the SDMB, as well as some of the opinions on it.

GWB has committed the cardinal sin of being a politician. Oh the horror!

He has misrepresented facts in political speeches. He has sided with optimistic (and illogical) expectations of the Iraqi response to an invasion. He’s capitalized on an outside threat to undermine liberties, to an extent that is hotly debated.

That’s all politics. Nothing that GWB has done is truly a criminal act.

Accordingly, he merits removal by electing somebody else. But hardly an impeachment.

Don’t be hating.

RING RING

“Hello, Department of Homeland Security.”

“Yes? I’d like to report a terrorist plot…”

Isn’t that one of the signs of the Apocalypse?

Shodan, can I have a nickel for every time you make this ridiculous non-debateworthy taunt on the boards? Elsewise, can you PLEASE come up with a new insult? This one is getting really, really tiresome: it was never funny to begin with, you fall back on it just about every time people criticize Bush, and it’s gonna make you look awful stupid if Bush doesn’t get re-elected.

Lay it to rest, wouldja?
Daniel

I will say this: the last thing Democrats need to do right now is let Bush turn into a martyr. Remember how furious many Americans grew with Republicans over the unjust impeachment? Let’s not make the same mistake.

Bush’s deceptions, greed, and shrill rhetoric is becoming increasingly transparent with every day. People are starting to realize the mistake they made when they put their trust in him. It’s reaching the point where he can no longer say obviously ridiculous things and have people believe him because, after all, he IS the president.

Our job now is to take the high road. Point out his hypocrisies, his utter lack of integrity, his deceits, his arrogance. Speak the truth about the harm he’s doing to our country, both domestically and internationally. Put forward plans to get our nation back on track. But for the love of God, don’t give anyone a reason to defend him.

Let him stand, at the end, alone.

Daniel

Amen, DW!

DW. My oldest daughter was conceived in Ashville, NC. Lovely town.

Thank you all for your insight into what should probably have been an IMHO thread. And thank you most of all for exercising restraint in an all too inflamable topic. I sincerely apperciate it.

Gobear, you got spunk.

Mods, can ya close this here thread please?

Despite what the little voices may be telling you, there’s hardly a throng of people here clamoring for impeachment proceedings. The OP asked whether it was possible to impeach on the grounds given, and the general consensus from both sides of the political fence is clearly “no”. RTFirefly suggested unofficial proceedings, but that seems to have been generally acknowledged to be a bad idea as well. The only “circle jerk” I see here is yours.

We don’t need to bother Bush to find that out; we could just look back about five years. Remember?
