Why Pizza Delivery? Not Burgers?

      • In big cities there are food delivery services, but the catch is that they are not actually restaurants, just kitchens. They mostly serve corporate and business clients and don’t do “regular” advertising but they often do sell to anybody. They carry almost everything (the place I know of has ~30 breakfast and ~80 lunch/dinner dishes), and if they don’t have it they can get it in just a couple days. They deliver from early morning until late at night, and the entire menu is always available. They often have minimum order amounts of $100-$150, but it is not difficult for four adults to go over that $150 minimum. - MC

Yup, Steak-Out delivers - YUM! and still hot upon arrival. (Except once when the delivery person was held up by a stalled train outside our office (less than 1/10th of a mile from me and a 20 minute delay - manager was understanding and replaced the food at no charge.)

KFC did try deliveries for awhile, but stopped. Food was usually lukewarm by the time it arrived, but at least it arrived on time.

Food delivery companies are horrible around here - [Take-out Taxi, not to name names] - (Call in your order to the main office, they call the restaurant, they pick up the order and deliver it to you). Always more than one hour wait (they say to allow up to 45 minutes after calling them), food is often cold and congealed, many mistakes (wrong food, with onions/ordered without, wrong restaurant!), leaky bags, no utensils (supposed to be always included) - we ended up with a 2 hour delay during a major business meeting, after hearing 4 times that “the driver is just around the corner from you” [no trains that day]. Lost our business after that, and they are still sending us discount coupons - we just send them right back. Grrrrr.

Now we just pay an employee to attempt to drive to a local restaurant for a mass order.

In Cleveland (well, Lakewood, anyway) there was a delivery service that contracted with 15-20 local restaurants to make deliveries from their menus. They sent out a mailing with all the menus, and there was, IIRC, a $25 minimum order. There were steak places, Indian food, Chinese, etc.

I always thought a dessert delivery place would be cool. You and your SO are sitting at home, thinking, “Hey, some apple pie and a couple of coffees would be good right now,” call up, and they bring hot pie and coffee right to your door.

Where I live in Alberta Canada KFC still delivers. Pretty good service too. As mentioned earlier, McDonalds used too. All the “fast food” chinese places here also make burgers, so I am sure they would deliver those if you asked them too.

I would imagine it all comes down to profit marin though. You can get a McD dinner for $5 (or even less for some meals). No way would a company give free delivery for that. A Taxi would cost at least another $5…probably $10. So, even if it is a subsidised delivery by the company, you $5 dinner is going to cost around $10. Not so cheap anymore. You might as well get a couple different chinese foods, or even go to a sit down resteraunt for almost that.

At least with a Pizza the average bill would probably be, and I am totally guessing here, $20 or more. Paying some kid min wage or under the table may make more sense here.

KFC delivers in the Greater Toronto area, even in the 'burbs,… but… only until 10.30 PM!!! Arrgghh! They stop just before the time when the service is most welcome!

You’re right though on the cost–they are rather expensive–I take KFC to my father often, and end up paying about 17 dollars for a combo, two large drinks and a 9-pack of strips. And I think there’s a delivery charge on top.

Rigardu, kaj vi ekvidos.

We have several services in our area that do many different types of delivery. The delivery service signs up with the different restaurants, and charge a delivery cost. Since the restaurant is getting some exposure it might not get otherwise (people don’t want to travel) it’s been very successful.

There’s another service, Elegant Express, that has about 2 doz. more restaurants to choose from. They give you a booklet with all the restaurant’s menus, and have at it.

I’m really surprised more places don’t have services like this…

What would be the point of ordering IN from Hooters?
