Try telling the campaign of the person that you wanted to vote for - I imagine that they would have both the motivation and the capacility to do something about it.

Possibly. I do recall the polls closing at 6:00 local time in Illinois when I was a child, although I can’t find any substantiation online. People always complained that it was hard to get to the polls after work, and they changed it to 7:00–it would have been around 1970. The tradeoff, of course, was that it made an already long day for the election judges even longer.
