Why Should I PERSONALLY Care About Politics?

I’m a fan of The Starfish Story.

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said ” I made a difference for that one.”

I’m guessing that you’re too young to remember the 2000 US presidential election?

And just look at the Republican primaries here in Pennsylvania for senator! Dr Oz and and his opponent had a difference of 0.1% of the vote, and they had to have a recall twice, and it was still too close before Dave McCormick just decided to concede.

You’re wrong. You, as a single individual casting your vote, will not determine the outcome of an election. But the outcome of an election is determined by tens of millions of people, all of whom were casting their vote as an individual just like you do.

This is a situation where literally every little bit counts. Look at the 2020 presidential election; we know that 81,268,924 people voted for Joe Biden and 74,216,154 people voted for Donald Trump. Every one of their votes was counted. Every vote is a small piece that adds to the grand total.

I suspect that SmartBulbInc doesn’t actually care about any evidence that we provide and will continue to insist that any political participation is a useless waste of time and effort.

I literally changed my position because of a good argument.

The average person also may not have the time or inclination to learn, either. Saying “You really should learn about tax policy,” for example, doesn’t usually inspire people to do so. We need an educatied electorate, obviously. But that topic may be a hijack and my post wasn’t directed at you.

I sometimes have to take a break from politics and escape from it. I get so damn tired of all the BS involved in politics. I don’t care much for politicians as they all seem corrupt and this includes dirty Joe Biden and his 20 foot nose.

Pastor Niemöller said it best-

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
