Portwest, as long as you’re beefing up on Consumer Reports and leaving the door open, you should largely be fine. Especially the mold problems - those were problems in the initial front loaders, but the newer models have vastly improved.
Problems that exist when people use appliances differently (ie user error) are magnified in front loaders. Using too much detergent, loading it too full, not using HE detergent and not letting the door remain open when the washer is not in use cause problems because of the owner. They build up over time and result in problems for the owners that they unknowingly caused themselves. Nobody goes back to their angry reviews after the repairman has arrived and lectured them. Nobody returns to correct their review with “Jeebus, I messed up, my bad!” They forget all about it and continue on with their lives.
