# Why the Increase in Peanut Allergies?

Well, there’s _Gentleman’s Relish_, which I was given a jar of, which basically consists of salted anchovies processed to the point at which it is no longer possible to discern even the slightest resemblance to a fish, and it is indeed grey with a hint of brown and delicious spread on toast. Mind you, it starts being salty about where Marmite leaves off. 😛

No, if I want to make Americans barf I start talking about stuffed hearts, steak and kidney pudding, liver and bacon casserole (or indeed flash-fried lamb’s liver), haggis (which is Scottish, but proof that they do have some good ideas, though on the other hand I wouldn’t touch a deep-fried Mars bar if I was starving to death), faggots…

Are there any documented cases of peanut allergies before antibiotics came into use? I’m just wondering if there may be a connection.
