Any sexism directed against Hillary by Fox News is nothing compared to the frontal, vicious racism they’ve been directing at Obama. The media demonization of Jeremiah Wright makes the Willie Horton ad look like a McDonald’s commercial.

[QUOTE=Diogenes the Cynic]

The threats to vote for John McCain not only would be a classic example of cutting off noses to spite faces, but also play into the stereotype of women being irrational and emotional.
[/QUOTE]
I wonder how many of them would still be threatening to join his campaign if they saw [this clip](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLQGWpRVA7o) of him laughing when a constituent asked him, “How do we beat the bitch?”

No matter how many commentators on the news spewed sexist remarks, none of them either came from, nor were laughed at by, Barack Obama himself, let alone anyone in his campaign. On the other hand, McCain thought it was a hoot to hear Hillary called a bitch, and never denounced the use of that term to describe his Senate colleague. Now _that’s_ appalling.

I seriously believe that Hillary was far and away the better candidate. Barack is a junior senator who hasn’t instigated or been allied with any significant legislation. He is a very good orator who has won over many people (especially the younger crowd) with Kennedy-like oration but with nothing to back it up. A few months ago, I was in a quandary because Barack did make an impression on me and I liked him. I understand his desire to meet with the Iranian president and others, but I think he’s naive about how diplomacy is conducted and just how far our president can go with such efforts. The Rev. Wright debacle and Barack’s subsequent comments made a difference. (Twenty years and Barack didn’t know about Wright’s rants?) I think the the media have favored Barak, and that many of the media commentators had it in for Hillary. For reasons I can’t explain, I don’t like Barak’s wife. I don’t know if I can vote for McCain – his pro-life and pro-war positions are a problem for me, but I don’t want to vote for Barak. I’ll be watching the Obama/McCain debates and hope they’ll help me make a decision.

I think I’d agree with you for the most part. Though I’d add that I think that Obama also suffers among some, for example, working-class voters for the same reasons that Gore does: he’s perceived as a really smart, latte-drinking, kinda guy who doesn’t bowl. (Being a latte-drinking kinda gal who doesn’t bowl I feel his pain 😉 )

Goodness, **Sycorax** , that was every major talking point about Obama in one paragraph. Nice job. Most have been debunked, and the ones that weren’t are a matter of opinion. So as not to get into a major hijack rehashing the last six months, I’ll just hit the most easily refuted point about him not being allied with any major legislation and point you to [these](http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633) [two](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/03/AR2008010303303.html) articles. I strongly encourage you to read them, as they address your concern head-on. Unless, of course, “significant legislation” means “highly publicized legislation,” in which case, no, he has not.

I don’t know where you got this idea, but it’s not supported by the facts. Any investigation into Barack’s experience shows [clear](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9460480&postcount=4) [evidence](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9507458&postcount=86) of [substantive](http://obama.senate.gov/press/070111-lugar-obama_non/) [legislation](http://obama.senate.gov/press/060908-senate_passes_c/) he’s authored or [co-authored](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9624098&postcount=33). He has 11 years of elected legislative experience. And his experience working in the State Legislature gives him a unique perspective as to the effects of Federal law on the State.

He may be, but as far as I’m concerned he gets credit at the very least for wanting to _try_. Look at what our stubborn refusal to meet and negotiate has gotten us, and imagine how much worse it will be with another 4 years of bloviating.

Certainly not the ones that occurred after he embarked on his campaign, which were the ones Fox News subjected us all to for weeks on end. The Jeremiah Wright he knew and respected was the man reflected in [this interview](http://www.spiegel.de/international/0,1518,471221,00.html). If that’s what you knew of Reverend Wright, would you leave his church? I think not.

> [@Sycorax](#):

> I think the the media have favored Barak, and that many of the media commentators had it in for Hillary.

“The media” hasn’t favored Barack at all. There’s a reason Barack’s supporters call CNN “the Clinton News Network.” As I stated above, the vileness spewed by those creeps on Fox News shouldn’t be taken seriously by anyone, and I don’t believe they were by Democrats who were the majority of those making their decision during this primary campaign.

> [@Sycorax](#):

This I can’t help you with. All I can say is that I didn’t think one way or another about her, and in fact was a little less than enthusiastic about going to one of her rallies than I would have been to see Barack himself. But I left that rally a HUGE fan of Michelle Obama. She is a remarkable woman all on her own. But as an advocate for her husband and his vision for this country, she shines. She will make an incredible First Lady. I hope you will take the time to search her out and get to know her before the General Election.

It was interesting to see Pat Buchanan talking about this today, very heavily criticising the Bush administration for refusing to speak to so many other governments around the world.

Not true. He won over voters in every ethnic and age group, all over the US. Most of the primary postmortems agree that he ran a better campaign, one of the most effective and well organized in recent history.

It wasn’t luck. Obama was simply better than Clinton at the basic tasks of leadership: selecting, organizing, and mobilizing large numbers of people around a common cause. I believe this owes to the fact that he spent close to 20 years in ground level Chicago politics, making his own decisions, steering his own ship.

Hillary, on the other hand, has spent most of her career as a supporting player on a very successful team. I doubt that she had the final say over very much, and I doubt that she could have become Senator from what is arguably the most important state in the Union without her husband’s help.

My evaluation is that a lot of the mistakes Team Clinton made were rookie mistakes. Someone who worked their way up in big city politics would not have made so many. I believe the reporters who say that Mark Penn didn’t know that the CA primary was proportional, not winner take all. Maybe the inside sources who’ve confirmed the story are all making it up in unison b/c they hate Penn. But I’ve seen him make other boneheaded maneuvers, so I suspect they’re right.

I don’t understand the whole “media favored Obama” angle. It seems to me that if any other candidate had lost eleven (11) (XI) straight primaries to the other, as Clinton did at one point months ago, that person who’ve been laughed out of the race at that time. The fact that the media didn’t give Clinton that treatment at that time seems to me that the media was biased in favor of Clinton.

If you don’t like Obama, fine, but you really don’t do yourself any favors by regurgitating debunked talking points and proven lies. I half expected you to ask “…and isn’t he really a Muslim?”

Also, it’s very easy to find both Obama’s and Clinton’s legislative records. Ah, but I see Shayna has made is simpler for you by providing links in her post above. A simple click should open your eyes a little…that is if you’re really interested in the truth.

It’s a horse race & she lost. The level of continuing white hot fury, especially among her female supporters is (to the extent I can recall) unprecedented in modern politics. It’s so over the top that some are talking seriously about making votes for McCain as a form of vengeance for being thwarted.

Why the white hot fury? He’s still a democrat. Is there some “it was ours and you swiped it” entitlement vibe operating here?
[/QUOTE]

I haven’t seen it. I have seen much hatred, loathing and name calling by the Obama-ites. Most Dems I know, even female Hillary-ites, are still going to vote Obama.

But yes, I have seen some reaction amount Dems about the poor sportsmanslike conduct of Obama-ites and that is causing quite a bit of resentment.

**Sycorax** makes some good points- after all, Obama has exactly half the National level experience that HRC has. I count his experience in a state legislature less than I count HRC’s experience as a very active First lady. But in reality, it’s the US Senate time that counts, and Obama had 1/2 of Hillarys.

\*Rev. Wright \* was a debacle. Obama recovered fairly well, but it still hurt and it will count against him. How much has yet to be seen.

However, I do read the posts here, and here the anti-HRC hatred has gotten out of control.

I have seen almost no “hate Obama rants” here. I have read a good number of complaints here about Obama supporters, true.

Sure, but the question was “Why the white hot fury?” on the part of Clinton supporters. Although you say you haven’t seen it, it most definately exists.

Just to be clear, the quotes I pulled were culled from the comments on the official Clinton campaign blog, not some “We hate Obama!” site. Although I’m sure there’s exception enough, I actually did notice that the (official) Obama blog comments were much more civil and upbeat – more about “Yay Obama!” than “Hiss Clinton!” while the Clinton blogs seemed a _lot_ heavier into “Hiss Obama”.

[QUOTE=DrDeth]
I have seen almost no “hate Obama rants” here. I have read a good number of complaints here about Obama supporters, true.
[/QUOTE]

And don’t you think that could be due to Obama himself being cool, polite, respectful, patient, tolerant, mature and focused on governing, as opposed to ranting, shrieking, and pulling intemperate and tortured logic out of any handy orifice, like certain other candidates?

Does he get a little credit for comporting himself well, in other words, or is the only reason for the absence of rants against him the saintliness of his opponents, in your view?
