I canā€™t remember how I got here, but I like the general level of intelligence and that mostly people are civilised and follow some reasonable rules. Iā€™ve learned a lot here. ---

Hanging out? I donā€™t hang out much here. No sir (maā€™am). I have places to go and things to see. Let me just quickly go have a look whatā€™s up in IMHO. And in CafĆ© Society there seems to be another Buffy thread. And I might be able to answer one of those General Questions. And then Iā€™ll hop by the Pit to check on the stats of which Mod is currently in the lead with the most pittings. And then Iā€™ll have to check back here (just a quick check of course). But then nothing will stop me from going out thereā€¦the world is my oyster. ---

Been a fan of The Straight Dope for more years than I care to think about. Eventually, I got around to making [straightdope.com](http://straightdope.com) my default home page, so I could read it every day. Started reading Threadspotting on a regular basis. I think they put a secret ingredient into Threadspotting that gets you addicted. Once you start reading that stuff, youā€™re hooked for life. Iā€™ve heard that there are rehabs that can help, but I donā€™t believe it for a minute. . . ---

Hi **sstaurus** , just new here myself! I wondered too why all those people were here. I guess the responses here show one of the reasons. šŸ™‚ Seriously, it is great fun to read through so many diverse, intelligent, irritating and/or humorous posts, that are continually updated. Here is my story. One day I was looking after the meaning of ā€˜decimateā€™, which led me to the Word Detective. Browsing through some of his colums led me to the Straight Dope, and then I was as so many hapless others (hi **norinew**!) sucked in through Threadspotting. I seriously believe there should be a disclaimer somewhere: looking here will limit your available spare time. Now Iā€™m reliving the same experience that **Einmon** so brilliantly describes. But Iā€™m going to kick this habit! Maybe I should post in GQ for advice ont his matterā€¦ ---

Welcome to SDMB, **sstaurus**! I donā€™t remember how I got here, but I was fleeing from a bliss bunny website that had gone bad ā€“ terribly bad. There were only a handful of participants there and almost everyone hated everybody else. They were even hostile about peace! There are enough participants here for me to have some anonymity ā€“ enough that I donā€™t take even pit comments personally. Any topic is fair game ā€“ as are most comments. Posters here are more intelligent here than on any other forum that Iā€™ve found ā€“ and the wit is caustic. But when you need comfort or advice, here it is. Also, I have a crush on C. K. Dexter-Haven and I thrive on unrequited love! ---

Iā€™m handcuffed to the hamster. Or else I discovered the books at my Friendly Neighborhood Bookstore, got hooked on Cecil Adams, and was directed by the books to the message board. I stay because of the intelligent conversation, the elaborate jokes, and the wide range of opinions and perspectives.
