This is a bit crass but I’m curious as to how a member like **Satan** with 5000+ posts gets banned and I can’t find it using the search engine so could someone please give me a hand… And I say this because invariably I dig his posts. Thanks. ---

Hmmm. One thing I was wondering while people were discussing the shortest stint somebody has had before getting banned - what’s the LONGEST existence, either in terms of post count or time, before eventually getting banned? Does **Satan** hold this record? I seem to recall remarks in passing that a moderator was actually banned once, which must have been an entertaining firefight for those of us in the cheap seats. ---

[Melin has been banned](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=8465) Yeah, emotions ran high over that incident. At the time, Melin was no longer a moderator (as [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=3003) explains). Not the best moments in the history of the SDMB. It seems that between then and now, the board has lost many of those who were most vocal in their opposition to many administrative actions, and we have become, on the whole, more accepting of the administration exercising its prerogative. Note that one of the things mentioned in the Melin thread was that previously the administration couldn’t ban someone without cause. In any event, I do believe that Satan does indeed hold the record for the most posts prior to being banned, not that anyone keeps track of such things, or should. ---
