in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=575495) thread **Richard Pearse** accuses **leedolee** of being a sock or troll or liar. The thread was then closed. I thought we were allowed to make accusations in the Pit. Am I mistaken?

It bordered on stalking. I closed it.
There was a back history to all of this, including private messages, reported posts, etc.

Is it so weird to want to know who the girlfriend is? I was kind of curious. It’s not as if knowing who which doper it is will let us know who she actually is.

I’d PM’d **Samclem** my pet theory at the same time that I started that thread. Sam didn’t know about the thread and was very appreciative that I hadn’t made my theory public :eek:. He then shot a couple of holes in it. I replied to let him know about the thread so that he didn’t continue to harbour the misapprehension that I was a board angel. He then saw fit to close it.
It wasn’t meant to be an attempt to out the girlfriend or anything, I just saw it as making a trolling accusation in the appropriate forum, however with the scarcity of evidence available it was an unwarranted accusation.
I apologise to **leedolee** for making a baseless accusation of trolling.

If you have other comments or questions on when and where to make an accusation of trolling, see [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=575418).
As **Dex** says in that thread, the staff is currently discussing specifically what the policy is, and will not be posting an official statement until that’s hashed out. IMHO, there’s no point in anyone, even a mod, stating an opinion about what they think the current policy is, exactly, until we finish that discussion.
So if y’all could hold your horses for another day or so before launching any more “troll! troll!” threads, that would help.
