It seems to have in North Africa, but our forces morale seemed to be pretty low before Patton took charge and change was likely to be good. I’ve not seen as much that his maintenance of the spit-&-polish requirements was as helpful in Italy and France. It is without question that Patton was an excellent general as far as not fighting over the same hill multiple times. He did whatever he could to keep the army moving forward and gaining ground. His overall rep was fairly good with the soldiers for this reason.
OTOH, the Japanese, having practiced origami since childhood, went elaborate with their chinstraps. They also carefully made their puttees crisscross when they wrapped them. Crafty devils.
