Their bad. :o (The same guys who tossed snowballs at the bus leaving the corner… I think the principal caught and chewed them out eventually.) As has been noted in this thread already, acute alcohol withdrawal can be fatal. If you’re staving off withdrawal from hour to hour by consuming more alcohol, the place for you is a detox unit. Most ERs (including Mass General, Boston Medical, and others) can find a detox bed somewhere for folks undergoing withdrawal. Living from fix to fix to avoid physical withdrawal is a way of living which calls out for another way of living. I know this to be true for myself. I proved it. ---

It may take detox, it may take AA, it may take something else, but if you go asking the neighbours for beer, you can ask for help in kicking booze, too. And with help, friends, and the courage that’s inside you, waiting to come out, you can come far, far beyond being the drunk girl on someone’s porch. Please ask for help–if you can approach the neighbours, I know you can reach out again for a hand to get sober. I’ll be sending some good thoughts your way. ---

I recently had an awakening about my caffeine problem when I landed in the ER two weeks ago, unable to breathe, heart rate at 150 with palpitations, dehydrated and numb all over, in seizures; and I needed _massive_ doses of injections, an oxygen tank, and 6 torturous hours in a hospital bed to come back to the world. Sweating bullets the entire time, and in case you’ve never laid down in a pool of your own sweat for six hours at a time, I’m here to tell you it’s a bitch. And _then_ there were the withdrawals. Right now I’m on a heart monitor and intense medication and the ol’ ticker still gets uppity from time to time. I’m not about to tell you what to do, because I would either be dead or still slugging down espresso like nobody’s business if I hadn’t overdosed in public and been raced to the hospital. I sure as hell can’t claim to have the magic answer. But I do know this: your Waterboy neighbor is a bitch-ass motherfucker, _and_ if you get help you can beat this (and never have to deal with those assholes again!). ---
