# Why won't win2000 recognize my sata drive?

I’m trying to do a clean install of win2000 onto my new computer.
Here’s the setup (from memory, hope i didn’t reverse any #s)
Asus a7n8x plus motherboard.
Maxtor diamondplus SATA (Serial ATA) 80GB 7200 rpm hard drive.
I use the maxtor cd to boot and format my hard drive.
I also use the cd to create a floppy disk with the sata drivers.
I boot using the win2000 cd.
I press F6 to tell it I want to install a sata driver.
When it asks for the driver I point it towards the floppy I made.
It seems happy.
Later on it asks whether to start installing WIN2000.
I click Yes, and then it claims it cant find a hard drive connected to the system.
Anyone have an idea?
Oh, by the way, I tried installing Win98 SE and it recognized the HD just fine.

This happened to me when I tried to install a SATA hard drive on a Soyo Dragon motherboard. Turns out there were two sets of drivers I had to install when windows asked for them, a RAID driver and a Serial IDE driver. I didn’t understand why I had to also install the Serial IDE drive so I didn’t the first time but I got the same error message you got. I then installed both drivers and Windows was able to detect the hard drive. Maybe you’re missing a set of drivers.

hmmmm… That sounds quite possible.
I don’t have the floppy here with me at work, but ill check tonight to see if there are two installable items in there somewhere.
Hopefully, the floppy it creates includes everything I need, but maybe not.
