Why would a sniper fire at a hospital evacuation

Nitpick 2:
Not according to the first 3 dictionary sites I checked:

  1. One who shoots at other people from a concealed place.

  2. n : a marksman who shoots at people from a concealed place

    1. : to shoot at exposed individuals from a usually concealed point of vantage

One of the current Pit threads, on gunfire interfering with rescue efforts, quoted a rescue worker as saying that some of the shooters were yelling things like “you better come get my family!”

So apparently some people are trying to intimidate rescue workers into helping them and their families instead of evacuating hospital patients and so on.

Yeah, shooting at rescue workers to try to scare them into obeying your orders is wrong, stupid, and counterproductive. But you can see how frightened and desperate people might lose their heads and think it was worth a try.

So in terms of gun violence, we’ve got, in what I would arbitrarily guess to be descending order of frequency:

  1. People trying to coerce rescue crews into giving them immediate help.

  2. Mentally disturbed/traumatized/addicted people desperate for drugs or supplies or what have you.

  3. Criminals deliberately committing armed robbery for drugs and other valuables.

  4. Pathologically violent or traumatized people shooting others for fun.
