The OP makes it sound like “the Chinese” are acting as one big monolithic bloc. Out of 1.x billion Chinese citizens, two “firms” have a hankering for SAAB. Is that really surprising that there are two CEOs in China that love goofy little SAAB?
Perhaps it isn’t SAAB they want. Perhaps it is an automotive plant, engineers, and a retail and distribution network that they are after. It would be a bit easier maybe to introduce a brand new brand with some of the components already in place. You would have an experienced workforce and they could probably get all of the warehouses and production equipment for a fraction of the newly built price. Just a WAG.
