The Ukrainians were always the likely suspects, or maybe the US. Russia had nothing to gain and a lot to lose from the pipeline being destroyed - they lost their carrot to offer Europe to stop hostilities. And Ukraine would have been worried that if the winter was bad and Europe was really hurting, Russia would have leverage over the war.
