I once knew a guy who came home from work and found that his wife had left. She took every single light bulb, the stoppers in the sinks, and even the cover plates from the light switches and electrical outlets.

Whatever their marital issues, that seemed a bit much.
A friend of mine got cleaned out by a bitter ex who loaded a truck up with stuff and left. The next day, she came back in the car because she’d forgotten to take something - the used toilet brush.

I think my friend was too stunned to protest.

I’ve got to ask the question: Why in the name of everything holy must people take all of the toilet paper? It doesn’t matter if it’s a one bath townhouse, or a 3 1/2 bath McMansion-nobody leaves so much as a partial roll. :WTF smiley:
Slightly related–I work at a family planning clinic. In each of the counsel and exam rooms, we have a basket with a collection of stuff. Placebo (or not, sometimes they’re opened “demo” packs) packs of various birth control methods so that people can see what a Nuva Ring or an Ortho Evra patch looks like, a wooden penis model (vaguely shaped, not terribly detailed, for demonstrating how to put on a condom) with a little metal plate that says, I kid you not “for demonstration purposes only” apparently to keep people from amusing themselves with it while they’re waiting for the nurse 😕.
Hee hee hee. I would totally make off with the wooden penis. I mean the wait for the doctor is always so long and the magazines are never very good. If that’s what it’s intended for, I suppose I could make it a demonstration 😃 .
If the rod was color cooridinated to the rest of their decor, I can understand this. Especially if it was a tension rod and not screwed into the wall.
Most shower rods are chrome - to color coordinate them to your decor, you go to the bath store and buy a plastic slip cover thing for $1 or so. I can’t imagine taking the whole shower rod.

I guess if it was a tension rod, and you weren’t sure the new place had a rod, maybe - but it still seems odd.

My bad, I forgot to mention that they left everything else in the binder we got. The binder was left over from the family that owned the place before the ones we bought it from. It contained the history of the house, and the renovations/replacements done to it. Anyway, the place in the back for all the manuals still had the air conditioners and the sprinkler system, as well as a ceiling fan or two’s manuals, but not the big stuff!

Wow. And I thought that Richard Pryor’s experiences in _Moving_ were complete fiction! It seemed rather bizarre to think that you could buy a house and find that the seller had taken cabinets, doors, and the _ **backyard pool** _ when they left.

Guess it wasn’t so far off the mark after all! 😃

I’m hooked on two TV shows where people “flip” houses (buy/renovate/sell for profit), and I just watched an episode of one last night where the people had taken the pool! It wound up causing foundation problems in the house, because the ground underneath shifted to fill in the gaping hole left behind. Amazing.

The guy had been living in his other place for at least 8 months before I bought the condo, so I doubt he was shower-rod-less the whole time. I guess now he has a spare shower rod.

Believe it or not, the type I mentioned does exist. I’ve seen plenty of badly decorated bathrooms with frilly peach or pink shower curtains and matching solid color rods.

I have a couple from both sides…

1. When moving out of our “7th-street-hell” we took all the hookups for the washer/dryer (vent tube, little black water pipes), the L-brackets from the closets, and some other various things.

2. When moving out of our next apartment into this one, we took a large white cabinet that was hanging on the wall in the bedroom. We also took an air conditioner (window one). The landlord didn’t really own either one, they were both left there by a previous tenant (he moved into the building next door, told us about it when he helped us move in).

3. But of course, all our taking of things had to bite us in the butt, when we moved in here and someone had taken the glass doors that go in the bathtub/shower…

It must have been the previous tenant who took the hardwired wall lamp out of my room, replacing it with one of those plates. (She may well have been the one who bought it - she had apparently bought the ceiling fan in the kitchen.) At any rate, it’s been a pain and a half replacing it, because there’s no switch connected to it, and wall sconces with switches on are fucking impossible to find. The landlord has promised to come over in the next little while and install a switch.

Radio Shack has all sorts of little switches you can put on there, you just need to drill a hole in the sconce fixture thing.

Also, check hotle suppliers, almost every hotel I have been to has a wall-mounted light by the bed with a switch mounted right into it.
I think we looked at that house years ago when we were house hunting. We saw one house where the kitchen was stripped bare. No cabinets, no counters (so obviously no counter space), except one small bit next to the sink. But the doors had been removed from that cabinet and the one under the sink, too.
Very weird.
If you were looking in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh in 1979, then it would have to be.

Which is preferable to me at least, than knowing that there were more than one person who thought that this was a good idea running around.

The house we’ve just moved into was owned by a couple who emigrated to Canada, before they left, they sold all the furniture… which we could’ve bought from them.
They took the “chandelier” from the living room, left the bulbs from it tho’
