I guess it took **BigT** awhile to work up that froth.

Now that you’re here, a month and a half later, I’m sure that you have evidence that the couple involved are married. If you do not, your entire rant is nonsensical.

Actually, come to think of it, we’ve yet to see any evidence that the incident even happened, or if it is entirely fictional.

Huh? The issue is that the presumed adultery is none of the nosy person’s business.

> [@](#):
>
> Adultery is an immoral act, a violation of one’s vows to another. A betrayal.

Granted. It’s still none of the business of people not actually involved in the marriage or said betrayal.

> [@](#):
>
> Being nosy is a nuisance. You shouldn’t do it because it can annoy people, and you really shouldn’t set out to annoy people, but it’s not itself wrong.

One shouldn’t do it and then act on it to insert oneself into the dynamics of another person’s marriage.

> [@](#):
>
> Now, they shouldn’t have publicly shamed her like that.

You got that one right.

> [@](#):
>
> They should have dealt with it privately, telling the husband and letting him decide what to do from there.

Nope. Wrong. They should’ve STFU. It was absolutely none of their business.

> [@](#):
>
> But they have a moral responsibility to do something.

Ah, the convenience of “moral responsibility” when it comes to sticking one’s nose into someone else’s private business! Again, the nosy people should’ve simply STFU.

> [@](#):
>
> You don’t get to find out about something immoral and then say “none of my business.”

Actually, you really do get to do that when the “something immoral” you find out about is (a) not a crime and (b) is absolutely none of your business.

> [@](#):
>
> That’s how people get away with immoral things. And, yes, I know there’s some debate about what is moral, but most of us agree adultery is wrong. When you find out about soemthing immoral, you do what you can to fix it, even if you found out about it while doing something rude. If you don’t, you’re an accomplice or an an enabler.

So you recognize that different people have different ideas about morals relating to, say, marriage? Then it shouldn’t be that hard to grasp that the issue here is that the presumed adultery is absolutely none of the nosy people’s business.

> [@](#):
>
> Being more upset about the nosy person is like being more upset about the girl who got blind drunk than the guy who raped her. It’s a completely ass-backwards set of moral priorities.

No, it’s not. First: rape is a crime. Second, there are such things as “open marriages”. Now, I personally find the open marriage to be immoral, but it’s none of my business as to who is involved in such and it’s certainly not my business to stick my nose into someone else’s marriage.

> [@](#):
>
> You even have people saying “No one is condoning adultery in this thread” but not a single one of you who are upset about “nosiness” have said anything bad about it. You’ve made excuses for why he shouldn’t have been told. You are trying to excuse it by removing any chance at consequences.

No. What people are saying is that nosy people need to STFU when they discover something that isn’t their business.

> [@](#):
>
> You’ve even argued that adultery is not a crime. Neither is being nosy. But you’re fine with making that the absolute worst thing in the world, while acting like it’s wrong to think adultery is something you should do something about.

Nope. The nosy people assumed that the man in the marriage they’re butting into has the same set of morals they do. They then blabbed their tidbit of gossip to him. For what reason? It certainly wasn’t so he could feel all cozy inside, assuming (as they did) that he has the same morals they do. They wanted to somehow punish someone (the wife) for doing something they didn’t like her doing.

> [@](#):
>
> You guys are treating bad manners as worse than fucking adultery.

Again, nope. People are treating sticking noses into someone’s marriage with a hope of disrupting that marriage as a pretty nasty and low thing to do.

> [@](#):
>
> On a board where you guys go on and on about how manners are stupid and everyone should be upfront. On a board that has a forum specifically so you can lash out at people rather than being polite.
>
> Oh, and hi to the people in that forum after this gets mentioned in **aceplace** ’s pit thread. Thanks for proving my point about being polite. I’m being impolite, you’re being impolite. You’d laugh at me if I called you despicable.
>
> Being nosy is impolite. Sharing with the world is worse. Adultery, is in another category. It’s marriage destroying bad. None of y’all freaked out about checking out _Ashley Madison_.

I’m not following you there. Could you clarify or even expand?

Or evidence that the man didn’t already know, evidence the man cared/did not care about the presumed betrayal, evidence that the couple asked for the nosy people’s “assistance” with their marriage?

Excellent point.
