I resent the commercial because they’ve got it all wrong. Your wingman is not there to take the hit for you; he’s there to make sure you don’t get shot down, and vice versa. Annoys me the same way when people use “panned out” to mean something good. Blah. ---

Ethilrist, you’ve severely limited the duties of the wingman. First off, it’s not vice versa. There is only one wingman in a given situation, the other person is the primary. The wingman’s jobs are multiple - to distract peripheral targets, to generally assist in any way possible, scout out terrain, as well as take a hit for you. In fact, I’d say that “taking one for the team” is the most important job the wingman has. ---

Indeed. “This chick’s rockin’ you’r bro’s world on the dance floor.” You are automatically wingman. You laugh at all his jokes (even if he’s stealing your best ones), you insist that his grandiose statements of personal wealth/achievement are the gospel truth, you distract his (and her) friends who are potential embarassments. And, if you must, you fall on the grenade. I know we’re mixing metaphors here, but it’s the most important and courageous thing the wingman can do, and should entitle him to drink free next time, if not the pick of the targets. ---

Count me in for the Wingman lurve. That commerical cracks me up every single time I watch it! Also loved the office linebacker, btw. And most of the ESPN commericials, like the one where they have grass inside the building. Hee. ---

I was just thinking last night about how much I like that commercial. Most of the recent spate of Coors commercials have been pretty good, actually. Far better than the dullsville MGD spots with Kiefer Sutherland droning on about “keep what’s good” or whatever. And of course the SportsCenter commercials are genius. ---

When being told to impress a woman, it raises to 400%. Just so everyone knows. I can’t really dispute the Wingman ad as one of the top 10, but I will mention Bud Light’s Real American Heroes radio ads. They would rank higher. ---
