Wild animals in the house

When I was a kid, a squirrel fell down our chimney. We had to chase it all the way upstairs and round and round my brother’s room, until we finally got it to do out the window onto the sunroom roof.

I don’t think we’ve had anything in our recent homes except mice.

I’ve had some experiences at the office though. I found a baby lizard under my desk once.

My favorite was at a former workplace when I came in early on a weekend to do a little extra work and found a bat zipping up and down the upstairs hallway. I managed to chase it into a classroom and got it to hook it’s little claws into a broom and then I dumped it out the window into a tree.

Back when I lived in Louisiana, I found a rattlesnake under my shoes in the living room one morning.

My current residence is in a less critter-prone area. One of the local rabbits popped into my apartment entry one day, but evidently decided the stairs were too much trouble and left again. A more determined guest was a sparrow that found its way into the dryer vent, then all the way up the vent to the duct on the dryer. It pecked a hole in the duct and spent some time flying around the apartment.
