I’m glad this thread is a joke. Most of the people I’ve ever seen driving a jeep have been female. I knew one guy with one, though. Might as well impress a girl by driving a Fit or Yaris. ---

In an off-road vehicle, though, there are a lot of advantages to automatic gearboxes if you will actually be doing hard-core off-roading. I know off-road enthusiasts who swear by automatics for the real slow crawling-through-boulder-strewn-canyons/riverbeds/etc type of off-roading. The only way to attract the right girl, or the right kind of girls for you, is to be exactly who you are. Any attempts to be someone you are not, in order to attract girls are doomed to failure, because: 1. you won’t be as good as being you aren’t as you would be at being who you are. 2. you won’t attract girls who like who you really are. In fact, they’ll be put off. In other words, in a world where you didn’t think about girls at all - you’re gay/there are no girls/you’re married but need a car - what kind of car would you get? If the answer is ‘a Jeep painted like the Jeeps in Jurassic Park’, then I think you should just go for it and be happy with it. When I met The Love Of My Life, **Ms. Attack** I had an beat up Toyota Truck, the greatest vehicle of all time, a Rocinante of a truck. She liked it. I don’t think it was a factor in her decision to marry me, but it was cute when we drove away in it after the wedding, all festooned with ribbons and such. Good Luck ---

Ironically, by my calculations it is now legal to start dating girls who were not born before Jurassic Park was released (1993). ---

Our OP is **PSXer**. I had to look it up, but apparently PSX is a gaming console [PSX - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX) . I’m a geezer and I recall Jurrasic Park was hot for all of 20 minutes when it came out nearly 20 years ago. I’m not seein’ a Jurrasic Wrangler as a chick magnet for a gamer. My wife had a Wrangler for awhile & was active with the local Jeep girls club (which seems to have disbanded). If The OP likes independent-minded mostly-chunky outdoorsy chicks, that might work. But they’d probably back over your PSX on way out of your life a week later. But they (Jeeps and girls) are a lot of fun. Everybody should own a 7-10 year old beater jeep for a couple years, preferably while they’re still under 30. And ride some under-30 girls … And everybody should know how to drive a stick. And a manual too! Go for it. But don’t expect women to give a rat’s; they just aren’t that into cars. Unless they’re not quite old enough to drive, and you are. ---

I used to freelance for a number of off-roading publications, and the opinions in the message board above are representative of what I came across from serious off-road enthusiasts. A lot of drivers preferred manual for the fun and skill involved in using it effectively but admitted that automatics were better for many (if not most) off-roading situations.
