I would disagree. 2.5" habitually asks questions right on the edge of acceptability because he wants to trigger a shitstorm. Sometimes, the community resists the temptation, and a legitimately interesting discussion emerges, like the Koran thread. Sometimes, he hits on a legitimate controversy, and the topic takes off, resulting in an argument (see the recent “Diogenes the racist” thread in the Pit). Sometimes he goes over the line, as with the kiddy-vagina thread, and it gets shut down before a storm starts. But I have no doubt that his topics are carefully selected to be deniable shit-stirrers. I mean, that Koran thread produced an an interesting discussion, but it skirted the line of tension, and it’s very easy to imagine that a different combination of early responders, or a coincidentally topical news event, or some other confluence of events could have wound up sending the thread in a totally different direction, which was the hoped-for outcome.
He’s a troll, but a very subtle one.

I think 2.5" is a troll, but even if he intended to troll with the Koran question being discussed, it was a legit question brought on by a current, real-life case.

Yes HazelNutCoffee, I know my spelling and grammar are crappy. I can’t download a spell check at work but that won’t help my syntax anyway. I work with cars for a living. A very hands on kind of job, I apologize for offending you. You should ask Giraffe what I told him about my punctuation. I laugh about that to this day.
I think he expects a certain proportion of his threads – say, an average of three out of four – to either fall flat or stay legitimate or otherwise fail to trigger the shitstorm. It’s what allows him to maintain his smokescreen of deniability, and he can still giggle behind his mask when one in four does take off in some manner.
And yes, garygnu, it’s a topical post, but that’s part of the scheme. Keeping an eye on events, and thinking to himself, “Hmmm, this might push their buttons,” is his MO.
