All dwarfs have beards (except, possibly, for Carrot). Some dwarfs do have difficulty in growing their own beard, and there are some hints that this might be correlated with physical sex, but in such cases the dwarf will wear an artificial beard, another topic which is not discussed in polite company. ---

I always took it to be a logical consequence of his universe. I think he once wrote (about racial issues) something like ā€œIn a universe where trolls and dwarfs and goblins exist, the color of human skin is of little consequenceā€. Human (homo)sexuality probably falls into that crack. ---
