im 17. im from ny… i have this feeling like i am here to do something… i cannot figure out what it is… i know there is something out there more then this more then what i have come to know in my life already… i dont know if im asking the right questions or even the right people… if you are the right person or happen to know who might bee please contact me back…i am trying to fin more people who know the feeling that i feel… the feeling when you look in the mirror and get the feeling of something i cannot even explain…if this sounds stupid to you then i guess you are not the right person. thanks i got the ?z ---

One thing is that it seems as though the feeling you’re describing is part of being 17, or really anywhere from 15-25 or so - you haven’t experienced enough to know what you really want, but you’ve experienced enough to know that you want _something_ out of life. And that life is extremeliy significant. Don’t forget that simple fact. It seems as though a little experience will help you to figure it out. You’re poised on the brink of life. I’m almost 40 - I almost forgot what that was like. Thanks for reminding me. ---

That being said, we do encourage the use of proper English and conventional grammar and spelling here: u for “you”, 8 for “ate,” not using capital letters, using all capital letters, etc. are frowned upon by most posters as being childish and not showing the greatest intelligence. I’m going to move this thread over to MPSIMS for you. I encourage you to read the board, look at the forums, read the forum descriptions, and post again. Join up, as well, we are generally a good bunch of people here. \ And as far as your feeling, I’ll have to agree with **Sattua** - it’s a by-product of being 17. Don’t take that wrong, it happens to everyone. Recognize it, embrace it, and use it to lift yourself to greater heights. Look forward to hearing more from you. ---

I’d like to say welcome to the SDMB and I think that this may well be a great place to ask the question. I have yet to see one go unanswered here. That said, I think I know where you are coming from. It has been a long time since I was 17 but I recall clearly this feeling so hard to put into words. I’m not quite clear though on if the feeling is related to yourself or to life/the world in general. As to you I’d say the possiblities are unlimited to an intelligent and curious person (guy/girl?) and maybe you’ve had some thoughts already on what that “something” might be. Any insights or general directions? ---

1st of all i wood like to say finally that was a good answer… the 1st answer that showed me that some1 at least thought about what i said…thanks i appreciate it… further more i am a guy… and i dont think this feeling has to do with beeing seventeen it cood be a contribution but i have had it for a very long time… this is one of the first times i have tried 2 actually aquire some responses to the subject… as for direction i always get the feeling after seein things such as conspiracy movies, or a stand up comedian that really makes you think…or a film like tupac’s ressurection…there are many more things that trigger this but you must find your own trigger to understand … i guess ---

Oh, I think I understan a little more. I think that when we are really young kids we just see the world in surface kinda way. What you see is all there is to see. Then later, you begin to realize there is often times more to it. You are looking deeper. _Why_ did he act that way, _why_ do those people hate these people, or hate them and act like thay don’t. Many comedians make us look deeper inside for the motivations of others, and ourselves. Am I kinda in the right direction? The feeling there’s more than meets the eye? Forgive me if I’m off track. You seem to be asking a kind of philosophical question, like “Where is my place in the universe?” It happens to me sometimes, in a why should I care, why am I here sort of way. Personally, I don’t think that in the grand scheme of things I’ll make a tremendous difference, but there’s always that one person that you influence. Think of the smaller picture instead of the big picture. The whole “it’s called seventeen” comments are because sooner or later it won’t matter as much, because you’ll be too caught up in having a job, growing up, making a life for yourself. Or at least, that’s the way I see it. It’d also be a lot easier to read your posts if you wrote in conventional English, I’m just sayin’. In the spirit of randomness, this whole post reminds me of “Do You Believe in Magic?” by the Lovin’ Spoonfuls.
