Jackie Chan is still too much of a clown to make a sexy leading man, though he is working on it as he ages and finds he should find roles a little easier on the joints, but Chow Yun-Fat has the smouldering looks to pull it off. Are any Indian actors trying to transition from Bollywood sex god to Hollywood sex god? A lot of the guys I see on the Saturday morning Indian videos look like they could.
Then there are Asian women, from the Bosporus to the Bering Straits–need I say more? There will be an enormous demand for actresses of Asian extraction as Hollywood comes to realize just how bloody hot they are!
Finally, as I play my Old Fart card, thirty years ago I was like most other Americans in knowing very, VERY few East Asians and no South Asians whatsoever. Movie and TV East Asians were cooks or war criminals. South Asians were pretty much limited to Peter Sellers’ in The Party. Since then I have seen both groups increase their populations enormously AND move out of their ghettos into mainstream America. I know some people bridle at the suggestion to be patient and that social change really IS happening, but I’ll suggest it anyway. Of course, that doesn’t mean people have to settle uncomplaining for the status quo; Hollywood can alway use a little nudge out of its formulas.
