No. I merely gave up on my future in the USA, and emigrated. Admittedly, I did that under Obama, but if I hadn’t then I would have done it now. It was really tough, but at the time I decided that staying would have been worse. People now have more and stronger reasons to do so, but have a hard time considering that the difficulties would really be worth it.

I do. I think less of anyone who chooses their own bougie comfort over reality. I think they are complicit in what happened. It’s a cliche, but if you ever wondered what you would have done in Germany in the 30s, what you’re doing now is what you would have done then. The better thing to do would be to be bothered by it all, to not make it so easy for them; to call out fascists for what they are in every interaction with them.
Anyone who still has a MAGA friend or family member in their social circle is part of the problem. Those nazi fucks should go to their grave never seeing their grandchildren again. When you socialize with them you are giving comfort to fascists.

Have _fun??_ Someone I know was picked up by ICE while dropping off his child at Cesar Chevez School right across the street from the Episcopal Church I stand guard at just yesterday. Your idea of “fun” sickens me. Btw, pulling the race card as a diversionary tactic was just stupid on your part, because this same evil regime this thread is about is pulling all references to slavery off the Harper’s Ferry historical site.

I don’t think the American Experiment is over, even if I may not be alive by the time we/ they manage to right the ship. I have reasonable hope for the midterms, though I realize the results may make me rethink my position.

Your nasty sarcasm aside, I didn’t find out about it until after the fact. I placed phone calls and/or emails to the city council, the mayor and the governor, and I am participating in standing guard at that school in case they come back. If they come to the nearby Episcopal Church I also guard, I will bar the doors and have others call 911, and I am prepared to be detained if it comes to that. I don’t wear the “If you are with me you are safe” button, because that is a promise that can’t be kept. My button says “If you go, I go” on it.
Do you plan on following my lead?

With the successful cancelling of media opposed to our orange dictator (NPR, PBS, late night shows, etc), the overtake of the SCOTUS and their bending of the knee to the orangeness, the lack of any sort of spine anywhere in the house and senate…I say we are fucked. Trump is hell-bent on getting as rich as he can and suppressing any opposition. When he said we would get sick of all the winning, he wasn’t wrong.

I’m a confident “I don’t know” on this one. The fascistic methods being employed are predictable but I’m uncertain the outcome is. The underclasses they are trying to alienate are more numerous and far more tightly woven into our culture than the scapegoats of the past. I can only hope they have bitten off more than they can chew and pay for it sooner than later. That said, every prediction I have made about the Trumpist movement has been wrong over the last (good God!) ten years.

And to answer your question, Yes. America will pull its head out of its ass. As soon as it starts to bleed money. Let’s see how the major networks respond to cancelling popular shows, grocery prices skyrocket, gas, energy, cars blah blah blah. It’s gonna suck for a while, but the tide is gonna reverse and wash us clean. I’m confident. Not happy, but optimistic.
