An attractive media executive quit her job few years ago and now writes only Christmas music. One of her songs I really like, it’s fun and catchy.
Here is an article about her from Billboard.
Here is the video link to my favorite song of hers.
Fa La La
All her songs are written by herself, not covers of old standard classics.
Back in the 1980's Wham released one of the most famous Christmas tunes of the past 30 years, "Last Christmas". A couple years ago George Michael wrote a new holiday classic, I think it is quiet nice.
Yes, you just need to listen to KSHIT-FM. You’ll find Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney, George Michael, etc… Also, every music star in the world will do an album with the classics, and probably include a few of their own composition.
Some of my favorite Christmas music is from the last decade or so. We don’t hear more of it on contemporary pop radio, because commercial radio stations suck. And when I try to get others to accept that these songs are awesome and deserving of inclusion in the canon, they just roll their eyes at me.
Alas, no, it’s not by anyone ‘famous’ as far as I can tell. It’s very…generic. Bland collection of rhymes set to an unmemorable bland tune, you can’t even hum it, it’s so ‘meh’.
Does it have a part about free candy, by any chance? I caught a song on a holiday channel years ago that had a very similar construction to “Must be Santa” – at the end of each section, the singer would recap the previous sections in an ever-increasing chorus.
I’ve always given ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ a pass because it was the '80s, and people didn’t know any better.
The comment about the 80s when folks didn’t know any better got me to thinking about an even scarier era, the late 70s. …
There must have been some disco-themed Christmas tunes in the mid/late 70’s disco era. I was a teen/college kid then in the prime of the music nut period of my life and I don’t remember any. But there had to have been some. Anybody got any memories or search results?
Coming from the same horrific era there was a thing called the Star Wars Holiday Special Star Wars Holiday Special - Wikipedia . It had to have some seasonal music in it. A lot of George Lucas’ money has been spent burying all evidence of this crime against humanity. But maybe, just maybe some of the music has survived in our part of the galaxy.
“Christmas at the Zoo” by The Flaming Lips should be mandatory holiday listening; it’s funny and optimistic as well as being a bit sad and wistful too: kids love it. “A Change At Christmas”'is pretty cool, too.
This monstrosity has been getting heavy airplay this year for some reason. Nothing gets you quite in the holiday mood like seemingly random singing and assorted melodies jammed on top of a monotonous disco beat. Looking around online, it seems to be pretty popular…having missed out on the '70s myself, I don’t see the appeal at all.
