As to the OP, I think the tipping point was reached long ago, and Trump will lose by historically large numbers.

But I wonder what the OP is looking for as evidence of this? Mike Pence removing his name from the ballot? Speaker Ryan denouncing Trump and encouraging a vote for Hilary or Gary Johnson?

Whatever the tipping point is, it won’t be made obvious by a public rejection of Trump by the Republican Party apparatus. They’re stuck.

He didn’t say he carries it around with him.

Trump is a disgrace, as are all who support him.

Provoking Trump is literally easier than taking candy from a baby. Are all trust-fund babies that thin-skinned?

Trump shouldn’t have survived his despicable comments about John McCain, who, incidentally, [has something to say](http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/02/us/politics/john-mccain-denounces-donald-trumps-comments-on-family-of-muslim-soldier.html) about Trump and Khan.

I’m not looking for a miracle, like the Republican party endorsing Clinton, because of this. The tipping point I’m wondering about is one that will be discussed, post election, as the point at which Trump’s support began a downward spiral. I’m hoping this is it.

FWIW, it’s been international news, too – a fact which illustrates the magnitude of the new depths the short-fingered vulgarian has plumbed.

It’s only until we find out “what’s going on”. It may take a while.

Obviously necessary in order to find out “what’s going on”.

Sadly true. His supporters are so frustrated with a corrupt dysfunctional political system that their objective is to elect someone so completely corrupt and dysfunctional that he’ll destroy it all. Trump supporters seem to think they’re electing a crusading anarchist, and as horrific as that would be, it’s actually worse: they’re really electing a self-serving Orwellian demagogue who will shred the Constitution – he’s already threatened to clamp down on press freedoms and, obviously, religious freedoms. This is the guy who loathes all minorities, has declared war against all Muslims, and sues everyone who ever dares to criticize him.

If this was meant to justify Trump’s behavior, it appears to be a logical fallacy known as a red herring.

It doesn’t appear to me you even know what that means. Were I you, I’m not sure I’d be calling others “low info voters”.

More red herring because this is also not relevant. As such, there is no need to debate its merits either.

Sure, you can go with the “what’s good for the goose…” argument here. However, behavior like Trump’s has long been considered beyond the pale in political discourse. If you’ve been a conservative for a long time, I’m sure you remember President Bush’s reaction to Cindy Sheehan, who criticized him severely over the Iraq War. Bush may have tripped over his words every 5 minutes but at least he had the sense to respond by offering sympathy for her position. By the way, Clinton has done the same in regard to Pat Smith.

Hells no. Trump could shoot the Khans in the middle of Main Street…

Seriously, if everything so far hasn’t been enough to sway somone from Trump, it is hard to believe what COULD be sufficient to do so.

My latest :smack: moment was when my VERY conservative BIL in FLA attempted to come across as honorable and reasonable by saying he couldn’t vote for either Trump or Clinton, and would either vote Lib or not vote for Pres. BULLSHIT! If you are living in a potential swing state, not voting for Hillary is tantamount to voting for Trump. You don’t get absolution from saying “I didn’t vote for him” unless you actively vote against him.

Too late to edit, but I wanted to add to the above that the “anarchist” explanation is the only one I know of that can account for how Trump keeps surviving outrageous and offensive proclamations that would long ago have sunk any politician. If you view your guy as The Great Destroyer rather than judging him on his merits as a productive politician, then the more destructively aggressive he is, the better. Attila the Hun would do well, too. The language barrier wouldn’t be a problem – Attila would just have to be seen looking fierce, like the Donald, and smashing a lot of things with his Scythian axe.

The Khan matter may be different because respect for fallen soldiers is deeply ingrained in the culture, and even the low-information types may be conflicted between their hatred of Muslims and their reverence for the military. It’s unfortunate and unseemly that the Khan family’s tragedy has become a political football.

Well, if anything was going to finish Trump, it’d be him insulting somebody sympathetic. Up to now, it’s been “You go, Donald!” which only encouraged him to keep talking without thinking.

Indeed - as of this date, save for the “shooting someone in broad daylight on 5th Avenue” or some major Act Of God (or of bad QC at the Rolls Royce aviation engine plant) there is nothing that will remove the Trump/Pence ticket from the November ballot nor that will lead the GOP or its major organizational branches to say to the people “vote -R- for all the other offices but leave the top of the ticket blank”. At most you’ll have more people like Cruz saying “vote your conscience”.

And yes of course he will survive it. He survives everything. As long as HE is a rich celebrity all’s right with the world. We know his followers don’t care about being right, but I’d even say many of them do not even care about winning per se, they just want to cause pain to the others.

Some of Trump’s top allies are now pushing an [evidence-free smear](http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/roger-stone-khizr-khan-muslim-brotherhood-conspiracy) that Khizr Khan is a Muslim Brotherhood agent.

How long until Trump says “people are saying he’s a Muslim Brotherhood agent!” or something like that?

</div>

The thing is, for Trump, the Kahn thing is just a marginally new low, it’s different qualitatively from say, Romney’s 47% tape.

But it really had everything:

1. Insult the mother of a dead soldier (who didn’t even speak), and work in a Muslim insult for good measure.

2. When asked what sacrifice he’s made, pulls a Sarah Palin and whips out the first cliche that pops in his head - I’m a job creator.
A Hillary super PAC is already running a gaffe tape. Since Trump isn’t falling off the face of the earth in the polls, people think these aren’t gaffes. They’re all gaffes, everything he says is a gaffe.

The PAC will have enough dough to buy enough time after the debates to buy thousands of 5 minute spots that will be nothing but a Trump blooper reel. They’ll be able to make multiple version of it without repeating the same gaffes. You will not be able to escape them. It’ll bury him.

He _survives_ them all, yes. But each one chips away some hard-to-measure quantum of support. His debacle over the telethon-for-veterans scam did not turn off _all_ the veterans, but surely some. His blatant misogyny will not convince all women, but surely some. So on and so forth.

Point being, I don’t think any one thing is going to torpedo his campaign. The cumulative effect, however…

I’m beginning to think he’s going to quit. Just stamp his feet and walk away, saying America doesn’t deserve him as President. (I kinda agree with that last part.)

If their attack on Trump made more sense, then it might hurt him. But as it is their argument falls in with the same leftist rhetoric that wants to pretend that radical Islam is not a problem. So, no it doesn’t hurt him and could benefit him if their attack is placed where it belongs.
