I ask myself: how does the risk of death and/or permanent damage compare to the risk I run every flu season? The risk of this (as well as the risk of passing it on to others) seems to be smaller than that of the flu for my children, so it seems odd to say they can’t go to school when they go to school every flu season. Similarly, I think for the kinds of risk I’m taking, the probability of death and/or permanent damage for me is less than the risk I run during flu season.
Of course, part of the issue is that we don’t know anything, but at least that’s my perception right now.
I’m sure they did then too. But in that case, it was federally enforced, so I don’t think there was a damn thing they could do (and even then, blackout rules were inconsistently followed, which did result in actual losses and fatalities). Plus the patriotism/nationalism aspect of war probably helped it go down smoother.
As to the topic at hand, it’s rather easy for myself. I had two main regular weekly social activities, and one is being done online, with the other plainly not really practical (gaming indoors, in both cases). I did have a close encounter today with an apartment maintenance guy, described in the mini-rants in the Pit, and I informed my cousin, who has young children and invited me over for the 4th, so I’m trying to respect her own risk assessment skills.
