Win XP Home, Linux, and SAMBA: how should it work?

That’s a good idea dylan_73, when I get back home in a week or so I’ll try a fresh, simple smb.conf file. Thanks.

BTW, I didn’t compile SAMBA, I downloaded and installed the RPM, which I suppose doesn’t include SWAT.

I did verify the smbd daemon is running, and I suppose it must be reading the smb.conf since the XP machine sees the LINUX machine when it browses it’s REVTIM workgroup.

dylan_73, I just noticed that your smb.conf file doesn’t have a "workgroup = " statement. How to you get to your LINUX machine if it’s not in your workgroup? Do you browse “Network Neighborhood” to see it?

I tried Joe Cool’s suggestions, no change
I tried a new, very small and simple smb.conf file, also no change.

I give up.

But Linux is free…

Yeah, it’s free to BITE ME!!!

Ehh, once I feel like looking at it again maybe I’ll try another flavor of LINUX instead of Red Hat.
