I want to like Windows 7, I really do. There’s lots of little annoyances though.

When you right click on the taskbar to close a window, “close” has been moved up a little higher so if I click where I’m used to clicking it does nothing.

The “show desktop” button has been moved over to the other side of the screen altogether. I go for this button all the time and I hate where it is now.

There’s another hidden trick to easily close a program, similarly to middle-clicking the quick launch icon to open a new instance of a program. Move your mouse over the icons so the thumbnail previews appear. Then move your mouse over one of the thumbnails. Middle-click while doing so, and that individual window will close.

As for jumping to the desktop, try Windows+D.

How are you able to buy it now with Windows 7 already installed? I thought non-beta versions of it weren’t available to the public until late October. (I’m waiting until then to buy a new computer, hoping my current one can limp along that long.)

More like ‘able to order it now with Windows 7’. I just got mailed by the supplier saying that they can’t start shipping until the 22nd, because that’s when Microsoft wants the new OS to hit the streets.

All in all, I’m probably going back to Vista soon. I never had any of the problems with it that so many people describe.

Wow, really?

I was a late adopter of Vista, i.e. I missed the buggy years. After some tweaking, I liked it more than I liked XP, and I never had any problems.

When the 7 Beta came out, I waited a while to hear the gouge, then decided to take the plunge in the spring, installing it on my Gateway desktop.

LOVED it.

Alas, about a month ago my Gateway died (hardware failure, not software), so I needed to get a replacement.

I bought an HP, in large part because HP was offering a free (really free-- no S&H fees!) upgrade to 7 once it came out.

I’ve now spent three weeks with Vista again after having had 7 for so long.

IT’S MISERY. I *can’t wait *until my upgrade disc gets here. I have XP at work, and I enjoy that much more more than I enjoy going back to Vista.

Again, there’s nothing wrong with Vista in its current form-- the vast majority of the criticism it received upon launch is now long-since outdated.

But man, it’s not 7. 7 is glorious, exactly what a 21st century OS should be. VERY happy with it.

The one I wanted came with Vista, and a chance to upgrade to Windows 7 for really cheap.

Thing is, I am really attached to Windows XP, but I don’t have the original installment-cd’s. So I pretty much have to take what OS the new 'puter has on it.

I got a new computer in July with Vista and an offer to get 7 for just the cost of shipping it, so I am going to put in 7 as soon as it arrives.

Definitely getting Windows 7 Pro. As for XP issues, I still have XP Pro on another hard disk which I can boot from if needed. Right now I am using Windows 7 RC since July and I haven’t run into any major issues. Old games work (Arcanum and Fallout 2 works), new games works but crash occasionally. I like how the start menu works now; I install a large number of programs that I am out of room for my XP Start Menu.
