Windows 8 (eight) install. Why U no recognize disc in drive?

I hate to raise a zombie, but I hate to be unappreciative…

Thank you! A new DVD burner ($17 bucks on newegg) and we’re in business. But I’d have never spent the money (I’m that cheap) without the Dopers pointing and saying “It’s the drive, dipstick!”
Epilogue:

Middle school child now has her very own computer. She has replaced the hard drive & reinstalled the operating system with minimal assistance. We also added some windfall RAM. Now I am looking for a compatible video card that supports OpenGL because Minecraft must be played.

Sure, I’m $200 into a “free” computer, but teaching the kid not to be afraid to open the case and mess with stuff is well worth it.

Thank you!

Well you can test the drive in Windows…
Sometimes you find that it can read a CD but not a DVD, or vica versa,
Or it only has trouble with recordable media. Then you can be sure its the drive
(why would BIOS/OS troubles be deciduous ?)

nevermind
