I ran across the below link: [http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/ntfs/impl\_Part.htm](http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/file/ntfs/impl_Part.htm) With the interesting quote, “Compression is not supported on file systems with cluster sizes over 4 kiB. Since most people like this feature, the setup and formatting programs in newer Windows operating systems will not choose a cluster size over 4 kiB in size.” Does anyone know if this is true with newer versions of Windows? ---

Yup, that still holds for [Windows XP](http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314878) as well as [Windows Server 2003](http://support.microsoft.com/kb/140365). I’m not sure about Server 2008 and Vista/Windows 7, but nothing I’ve seen suggests that this has been changed. ---
