When I use Internet Explorer on my home computer (XP home edition), it works just fine and I close the window. But if I check the processes that are running on my computer I still have IEXPLORER.EXE running. This also happens if I open multiple browser windows, I will have multiple instances of IEXPLORER.EXE in my processes hours after having closed the browser(s).

What is causing this? How do I put a stop to it?

The process should be named **iexplore.exe** , not **iexplore_r_**.

Have you scanned your system with updated versions of [Spybot S&D](http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download) and [Ad-aware](http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/)? There may be malware which is keeping IE from closing correctly.
