Winter Driving Etiquette question

I didn’t say I endorse it. Only that that’s how I interpreted the comment.

Well, you are a known pilot.

Sigh…you do NOT “gun it” on ice, or winter conditions (wet, packed or wet-packed snow etc) that are likely, with the application of spinning tires, about to BECOME ice. Like the situation here a few days ago. Two years ago, there were some bad storms, from what people tell me it lasted about two weeks. So, when we were about to have more snow this time around, tips and hints were handed out on the news and so on.

Like “put weight in the back of your vehicles,” “don’t drive unless you have to” and the like. I grew up in Alaska and spent 35 years driving where it’s winter 6 or more months out of the year, but I’ve never seen anything like the panic and poor choices that happened here. If you watch the youtube videos, you can see that most of the crashes happened because people were driving too fast for conditions.

I find the OP interesting, as I was the truck in a very similar situation to his. (only no one flipped me off or tried to follow me, and I didn’t go on the shoulder, I slalomed uphill between spin outs and “frozen with fear” fellow drivers, during the first, really bad night at the beginning of the week). I went slowly and respectfully between them, so as not to frighten them further though!

Lapsed, sadly. :frowning:

You, the OP was completely in the right as you had the proper gear for the weather.
