Last year the boss let us all out of the office to walk down the block to observe the Seahawks Super Bowl victory parade. It was like sixteen degrees out. This year, temperatures have pretty much stayed in the 40s. I’d heard there is a mild El Niño in effect. The SO says ‘We still have February to get through,’ but I’m betting it’s going to stay mild. ---

I hope you’re right. I’m in northern Illinois, and we have had some cold, but nothing like last year. It has been wonderful. ---

Alaska is the real standout this year. Anchorage had no below-zero days in 2014, which has never happened. Today they are getting their very first substantial winter storm, with 5-14" of snow predicted. That’s an unusually heavy snowfall for Anchorage. The restart of the Iditarod race, which normally takes place just north of Anchorage, may be moved to Fairbanks. Fairbanks, which is normally colder than a well diggers ass, is just now seeing sub-zero weather. ---

Here’s a typical January, 2015 day where I live (Sacramento Valley, where January is supposedly the wettest month): - Some morning fog, lifts by 11:00, sunny and dry in the afternoon. Lows in the low 40s, highs in the mid 60s. Winds are calm. - Rinse and repeat. It’s getting ridiculous. We haven’t seen a drop of rain (or any snow in the mountains) since just before Christmas. Every day I wake up and hope the 7-day will show something other than suns. The weather-people have nothing to talk about. The ski resorts at Tahoe have mud. Mild sucks. ---

They are forecasting snow tonight/tomorrow and I was just thinking that I’ve only had to shovel twice this year and it was barely a few inches both times. The low today is supposed to be 32 which is not bad at all so I’ll be grilling outside. ---

flipping hemispheres, it’s been a very mild summer down under too. Only had a handful of really hot days. The Australian Open tennis is on at Melbourne, usually we have people melting on court in temperatures over 40c, this year we’ve hardly had any over 30c ---

Very mild here in Saskatchewan. It’s melting! The snow is melting! With rain! (To illustrate how odd this is, I can mention that two years ago I ran a thread-contest to see who could guess when the Piper yard would be free from snow. **Gorsnak** nailed it to the day, guessing May 7th.) ---

Holy Snowballs, NP. I’m planting peas and coles then. And starting the corn indoors. I’m west of the OP but it’s mild- like 55 today. ---

I kept hearing this year would be as bad as last year. We are almost done with January and so far it has been mild. Maybe February will be worse, I don’t know. We do get occasional snowstorms in March where I live, but those are usually one offs and the ice and snow melt within a few days. ---
