It’s not as if KFC or DG takes orders by phone. If you’re putting on a church social, or having a tour bus come in, it’s a good idea to let KFC or Church’s know that you’re gonna want about 25-50 orders of chicken BEFORE you arrive. For that matter, I’ve called restaurants (fast food as well as better places) to place a “to go” order, to be picked up in 10 or 15 minutes. As for both restaurants and retail stores, I don’t know how many times I’ve called to check to see if they’re going to be open until whenever. The DM is also perfectly aware that there are a lot of employees who will just let the phone ring when they’re not in the mood to answer it. Now, if the employees are slammed, then the correct thing to say, upon answering the phone, is “I’m ringing someone up right now, I’ll be with you in a second.” And then get back to the person on the phone ASAP. I’ve been the person calling, I’ve been the person in line, waiting…and I’ve also been the clerk who’s trying to juggle both people. Unless business is so great that the company can hire someone just to answer phones, there’s going to be a conflict. ---

I grew up in Dallas; there were a jillion hole in the wall places downtown that did a booming business with cups of chili and Frito Pie. Not to be alarmist, but I remember something about these sorts of links being the entry point for viruses and malware (since to use FB you have to allow javascript and probably flash). It can’t hurt to do a scan with something free like malwarebytes just to be safe. As to no like - no link - yeah that’s bullshit. I don’t do FB unless I have to and I haven’t had to since the ‘like’ button started popping up everywhere, but I think I get the idea. Fuck 'em - well and truly. ---

I’ve got an appointment on Wednesday to have the tooth extracted, and the doctor said that since that would remove the infected area I could skip taking the rest of the antibiotics. The fact that I haven’t been having any pain was a good sign. So of course yesterday afternoon I started feeling twinges from it, for the first time in months. ---

Again with some IANAD suggestions, but if the infection is currently contained and the surgery does something to bust it open and release it into your bloodstream, you could get majorly sick. (That’s why you’re generally put on a round of antibiotics beforehand.) I know someone who had something like an infected tooth removed by a dentist who didn’t bother to treat the infection first and ended up in the hospital. ---

I’ve finally landed a temp contract, and it’s at a place that has one of my major work peeves - smokers get breaks, non-smokers don’t. I really hate that shit. It’s not legal, but it’s one of those corporate culture things - no one takes a break unless they’re a smoker, and from what I’ve seen, the smokers take about one per hour. I’m only there for one day a week, and I’m torn between just taking my damned breaks, or just not making an issue of it. ---
