I hope that the younger generation aren’t as inspired by white nationalism as the older generation. A lot of younger people have grown up exposed to immigrants, feminists, gays and non-whites. Also each generation tends to be more secular than the one before. It was never controversial for them. So if someone makes dog whistles saying ‘America is supposed to be a white, hetero, native born white christian patriarchy’ that won’t appeal to people born in 2003 the same way it appeals to people born in 1953.
Its like anti-Irish or anti-Chinese prejudice. It was a far bigger issue in our grandparents generation, by our generation it was mostly irrelevant.
Of course new prejudices could easily just arise to fill the vacuum. Anti-chinese prejudice has been replaced by anti-latino prejudice. etc.
The referendum to eliminate the office of State Treasurer also would have transferred the treasurer’s constitutional duty to sit on the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands—to the lieutenant governor. That second part wasn’t widely reported but I think a few people actually read the referendum.
Dems flip one of the seats (in a district that went for Trump by 18 points and Walker by 23)
Republicans hold on to the other seat (by 8 points in a district that went Trump by 14)
