Beaver? Don’t you mean badger? I think there are badgers above not only the state Senate Chambers, but also the Assembly Chambers and Supreme Court as well. I don’t recall if they are gilded or not…
All I can add is that 39 streets surrounding the State Capitol building are named after the 39 signers of the US Constitution, the only city to honor the Signers in this way.
You’re probably correct, but I couldn’t bear to look at his teeth too carefully (shudders)
While were talking abut the capitol building - did you ever see the alcove where Old Abe the Civil War mascot eagle lived out his last days? Dark, depressing little room - I wonder if they found him with his beak clamped on the flue of the gas lighting fixture.
Old Abe’s remains burned in the fire, when our third Capital buikding burned in 1904. I don’t see how any of us would have seen where he lived. The building was dismantled from 1906 to 1917. They saved one feather from Old Abe, and that’s all that remains of our Civil War Mascot. Some history on Wisconsin’s Capital buildings.
The feather was kept at the Civil War museum that was in the building, but has now been move to a building on the Square.
Since the Badger is the Wisconsin’s official state animal, I think that Badgers should be Wisconsin’s official state song: Badgers (Badger, badger, badger, badger. Mushroom, mushroom! Snake!)
You know it’s Friday, and in Wisconsin that means one thing. Fish Fry. I blame that fact for the thoughts that went through my head when I read this.
“Why would a Surgeon Fry look distinct? Do they use a different type of batter or something? Wonder what Sturgeon tastes like? You must only be able to get Sturgeon Fry at certain times of year since I don’t think you can fish them all year round. But one Sturgeon would feed a lot of hungry people, I wonder if the bars split a fish since I doubt they could feed up a whole Sturgeon, even on a busy night. I better click on that link, maybe the DNR posted a recipe.”
Yup, I blame it on Friday…
Rock Lake is actually in Lake Mills, most people think that the lake in Lake Mills would be Mills lake, but no it’s Rock Lake.
Rock Lake has amazing pan fishing and bass fishing. I have pulled Blue Gills out of the lake that were bigger than my hand. I have long hands. It’s a great lake to take kids to fish because you can catch fish on every cast even from land.
My great grandma’s pond had fish like that. The Pumpkin Seeds and Bluegills reached a thickness of about 1&1/2 inches and a length about 10 inches. Those were the exceptional sized ones, but you got some every year. I never caught either species at that size after her place was sold.
