Just felt one comming in… this should be a bitch…
I dunno; don’t throw in the towel yet. I have one that moves a little every now and then, and I can feel it, and all my other teeth feel it and hurt a bit for a few days, and I think “Oh boy, this is it, this time I’m gonna have to get them out” but within a few days everything settles down again and my mouth feels fine. This has been going on for years, haven’t needed surgery yet. Maybe your teeth will fake you out like mine keep faking me out.
im reasonably sure that the bottom two are attached to your jaw (hence the cracking-bone noise), and the top two arent, which allows for the top two to be removed much more easily.
I just posted this in the GQ thread about wisdom teeth, but it bears repeating…
Ice Is Your Friend. For the first 8 hours, keep ice on your cheeks for as much as you can stand it. I had ice on for about 45 minutes of every hour for about 8 hours, and I had no visible swelling and didn’t need to take any painkillers fancier than Advil.
Ooooooooo. I had 'em all out when I was 18. All four were impacted, 2 or 3 horizontal. I had been planning on going under general, but I misunderstood the rules on eating…and since rescheduling would be a nightmare that meant 12, count 'em, 12 injections trying to get me numb. (It might’ve been 14.) Plus gas. And since I was awake the whole time, I got to hear all of the sawing and hacking and yanking. Happily, it only took a little over an hour, and then all four were GONE. Plus, I didn’t have to deal with the whole general-anaesthesia thing, which I understand can itself be quite a trial. Swallowed lots of advil, but no other painkillers; the swelling was over in a day or two. Thank god, no dry socket.
