Wisdom teeth - why have them removed?

I, like the OP, have a small jaw. I had one of my front lower incisors removed due to space problems as a child (I wish it had been two). I wore braces for years. When my wisdom teeth came in, they destroyed all the work the braces had done in the lower jaw. I had the wisdom teeth taken out then, but it was too late.

I had nine teeth taken out in one go, all that my dentist gave me was novacain and two shots of liquid valium. Pain wise it wasn’t so bad, but the oxycodone helped alot.

I had two unerrupted wisdom teeth that my dentist recommended for years should be removed. I had several teeth out in juvenile years for orthodontic reasons and didn’t fancy going through the experience again so kept putting it off. Eventually I yielded and as they extracted them they got a rush of green filth from under one - it was abcessing and I didn’t know yet, though I would have done in a short time.
It didn’t hurt at the time, but it sure did when the local wore off.
