Wish I lived in Austin, TX. Am I the only one that wishes they lived somewhere else?

Falmouth Mass is on Cape Cod. Dad was stationed there eight years at Otis Air Base. I lived there until the sixth grade. Loved sledding in the winter and ice skating. Summers we were at the beach only 1 1/2 mile away. Cranberry bogs were only a few blocks from my house.

Beautiful area in the summer. Nice beaches. There’s a lot of really great places to visit within a hour or so driving.

Down side is the tourist traffic. Cape Cod is a big summer tourist destination. Lots of snow but actually the cape is somewhat protected from the really bad winter storms. Other areas of Mass get hit a lot harder.

Even after all these years I still miss Cape Cod.

I work near Cape Cod and would never consider going there recreationaly and actively avoid it especially during the summer. I never understood and probably never will why people actually pay big money to go vacation there but Massachusetts people shell out huge money year after year to get a shack at least a 10 minute walk from a beach that might be just cold instead of freezing depending on your luck that year. No thanks, real beaches only exist in the Caribbean or the equivalent in my mind. Many people like yourself love it however and I can’t deny you that.

One thing I learned from this thread is that it takes all types. A lot of us are mislocated and have an exchange program for people that don’t appreciate where they live and want to be somewhere else.

I just recently moved from the San Francisco area to PNW and I love it. I’ve been planning and dreaming of this move for years and now I’m living right where I want to be. Sometimes I find myself feeling that old anxious longing just out of habit and then I think wake up! You did it! You’re here!

I’m pretty happy here in Dallas. The only place I’d want to move is Houston (where my parents live) or possibly Austin (where in-laws live), and that’s mostly so we can be closer to our parents so they can spend more time with the kid and any future kids.

Otherwise, I do like Houston, but it’s not a particularly great city for IT/computing folks, and my wife bitches about the humidity. Austin is too full of dreamy, space-cadet hippies and stinky people, the traffic is atrocious, and it’s just too hot and dry there for me.

No helicopter. I lived in the hills. No traffic just side roads to 6th street because my neiborhood was on lake austin drive which turned in to 6th street.

Another to say you are not alone. I moved to Upstate NY for the sake of elderly parents, and really, really want to leave. Of all the places I’ve lived, I love the Pacific NW the most, even though it was hard to make friends there. Don’t know where I’ll be going next, once I am free to leave.

There are a lot of places I’d rather live, but only if I was rich. Where we live right now fits our income and patience for traffic.

If we were rich? My husband would insist on SoCal. I’d then insist on long vacations in London.

Cape Cod, specifically Wellfleet is where I’d like to live. ETA: North of the Orleans rotary is less touristy during the summer. Woods Hole would be my 2nd choice.
