okay, Wendell. actually, your suggestions are exactly why i came here to ask questions and hopefully receive recommendations. as i said before, i have interest in this wide field, and wish to read more in order to narrow my focus. i knew i’d get some good suggestions, and i now have a hearty list of books to examine.

in considering a timeline, i have at least 2-3 years before formal school is an option, so i want to read and examine and research not only fields of study but also where best to learn more, and what kinds of things i can do with what i learn. certainly i wish to go beyond merely improving my writing skills, but in what direction i cannot yet say. perhaps by the time i reach the grand old age of 40 i’ll have some more specific sense of purpose.

thanks again,

mary
