Given that Shodan is citing this rule in another thread about war, could we get a clarification of how it applies to wartime politicking and so forth? Gaudere seems to be saying that a utilitarian argument in favor of wishing death on some people is acceptable, if I understand correctly, whereas Lynn implied last year (by telling Shodan to report such posts to a mod) that it was unacceptable.
It sounds like this rule only applies between fellow SDopers. Granted, I’ll be the first to admit I’m perhaps the most crotchety geezer on the Boards, and I’m only 30-something. But anyhoo, my question is: Can one wish death on non-Dopers? If not, then wishing someone a long, long, long, long life would be second best!
Well, that’s my life - surviving with cacti up my butt! - Jinx
i wish death on my neighbors cat…it craps in my flower beds every morning…and never does it’s “business” in it’s owner’s own yard…i hate this cat, and i hate it’s cat turds, most of all!!..if it is wrong for me to wish death on the cat, then please, at least let me piss on it.
sincerly,

I’m not a mod or admin, but I’d be surprised if that were allowed. That’s worse than wishing death on someone.
Something that I came in here to comment on is, I’ve seen this rule broken tons of times. A lot of dopers have said “I don’t care if I get banned, I hope so-and-so dies”.
I’ve never seen any mods mention this behavior, and it always slides. I’m not bothered by it so I don’t click the report button, but it’s weird to have a rule like that everyone ignores. The reason the mods don’t do anything is probably because nobody cares enough to report the offending post.
